Welcome to my class!A little bit about me: I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in English and Cultural Studies/Comparative Literature. I completed my Masters degree in English Education at the U of MN, and I have been teaching for 18 years. I am married with a 12-year-old son and a 8-year-old daughter. I love reading, discussion, argument, writing, and most communication-related activities. I also garden, pick a banjo, play with my kids, and mosaic in my spare time.
A little bit about my classes: I like to have a fun, relaxed class atmosphere where people are respectful and hard-working, but not stressful. I am a firm believer in the power of discussion and argument for learning, and I try to engage students in their learning each day. I will challenge my students to explain and support their positions, ask difficult questions, and look at the world from multiple perspectives. I believe in holistic learning - encouraging students to use the information and practice from my classes throughout their lives. I use intertexts, jokes, short videos, storytelling, and spontaneous learning opportunities to enrich the curriculum, and hopefully, my students' lives. |
